From this was formed the noun *dont-, *dent- ‘tooth’, whose descendants include Latin dēns ‘tooth’ (source of English dentist, indent, trident [16], etc), Greek odón ‘tooth’, (source of English odontology [19]), Welsh dant ‘tooth’, and prehistoric Germanic *tanthuz.
